She participated in both the Junior Olympics as well as the Olympic Festival. Was a four-year starter at Texas, helping them to win their first National Championship in 1988. Szyszczak was named all-conference and all-Region and was her team's MVP. Graduated with a BS in Computer Sciences and a BA in Psychology. She was a national champion in Mexico in beach doubles.
