Beach Bits: • In his second
season on the AVP Tour Smith was eliminated in the first three
qualifiers by Maddison and Riley McKibbin, then in the next two events
Smith's first two AVP main draw wins both came against the McKibbin
brothers. 2025: Smith and Webber placed third and ninth in their two AVP events as partners. Smith played in two Tour Series events with Derek Bradford, placing ninth and fifth. Smith and Webber competed for the Los Angeles Launch in the AVP League, one of four teams
to finish with a 6-2 match record. In the League Championships they won
two matches before losing in the title match. The duo played seven
World Tour events, including playing in the qualifier six times. They
advanced into the main draw three times with a best of 17th. 2024: Smith and Webber continued their partnership, playing three AVP events together with two ninths and a 13th. The duo played 10 World Tour events, losing in three qualifiers before advancing and finishing fifth in a Challenge event. They won a gold and a bronze in Futures tournaments, then lost in three straight Elite qualifiers before ending the year with a 13th in a Challenge event. 2023: Smith
played two AVP events with Billy Kolinske with a best of seventh in the
season opener after defeating prior year's partner Jake Dietrich in the
first round. Smith then began a partnership with Logan Webber, playing
six AVP tournaments together. In their first two outings the duo won and
placed second in Tour Series events. Smith and Webber later finished
third in Manhattan Beach. During their six AVP events, the duo had nine
match losses and seven of those came at the hands of a team with at
least one Olympian. Internationally Smith and Kolinske lost in the
qualifier of a Challenge event, then Smith and Webber placed fourth and
won a silver medal in two Futures events before placing fourth in the
Pan Am Games. 2022: Smith and Jake Dietrich played
in seven AVP tournaments, losing in the qualifier of a Tour Series
event, which marked his last appearance in an AVP qualifier. They placed
fifth in Hermosa Beach and third in Chicago, Smith's first AVP
semifinal, to go with three sevenths. Smith and Ian Satterfield lost in
the qualifier of a World Tour Futures event. 2021: Smith played three AVP events with Robbie Page, advancing to the main draw in Manhattan Beach and placing 17th. 2020: Did not compete. 2019: Smith was eliminated in all seven AVP qualifiers, with the first five alongside Steven Irvin and the last two with Jonah Seif. 2018: Smith
played in seven AVP qualifiers, with his first four coming with Lucas
Yoder. They lost in the qualifier in the first three events then
advanced and placed ninth in San Francisco in Smith's first AVP main
draw. Smith and Travis Mewhirter then played in three AVP qualifiers,
advancing from the first of those in Hermosa Beach to place 13th. 2017: Smith played in four AVP qualifiers with Cole Fiers but did not advance to the main draw in any of them. 2014: Smith's first ever beach event came in the FIVB U-21 World
Championships in Cyprus with Christopher Orenic, where the duo advanced
from the qualifier and placed 25th. In this same event Norway's Hendrik
Mol and Christian Sorum played their first FIVB event ever.
College: Smith played four seasons at UCLA, ending his career fourth in program history in assists and sixth in digs.
Personal:
Smith's father, Sinjin, is a volleyball Hall of Fame member and 1996
Olympian. Sinjin was an All-American setter at UCLA while his cousin,
Brian Robinson, competed in water polo at UCLA. Smith was named in honor
of another Volleyball Hall of Famer, Ron Von Hagen (who played just one
tournament with Sinjin, finishing fifth). Smith was a 2013 Volleyball
Magazine Fab 50 selection.
