Cook's father, Iain, played indoor volleyball for Scotland. Cook graduated from the University of Bath in England, then played on the Scottish National Team for 10 years and was an alternate for Team Great Britain in the 2012 London Olympics. He was part of the first Scottish beach volleyball team to ever qualify for the Commonwealth Games, and he also played professionally indoors in The Netherlands and France.
Cook married Courtney Kidd-Kadlubek, who played volleyball at Sacred Heart University and was the conference Player of the Year and a two-time conference Setter of the Year, ranking seventh nationally in assists per game in Division I as a senior. He and his wife had a baby boy, Caoimhe, in May 2022.
